Porthminster Beach Café in St Ives is teaming up with Lelant-based independent wine merchant, Scarlet Wines, to host a wine dinner which will bring together the best of Cornwall and Australia.

Guests are invited to indulge in the finest Cornish produce alongside award-winning Australia wines in a seven-course tasting menu which has been designed by Michael Smith, Executive Chef at Porthminster Beach Café, and Jon Keast, owner of Scarlet Wines.

The event at the acclaimed Beach Café on 8th April will celebrate the opening of the restaurant’s newly remodelled terrace.

The fully-enclosed structure with fold-down glass sides and a retractable roof allows the terrace – which enjoys stunning views across St Ives Bay – to be used in all weathers; antipodean or otherwise.

Michael, who is originally from Warrnambool in Victoria, is looking forward to showcasing some of his favourite Cornish ingredients (the menu includes giant surf clams, spring lamb, foraged seaweed and coastal greens) alongside iconic wines from his home patch.

He explained: “Jon and I both love Australian wines, and have each travelled to wine regions all over the country and visited many vineyards to sample and source wines. We’ve selected some of our greatest finds, and carefully matched them with dishes which complement their unique characteristics.”

Jon commented: “Australia is producing some really exciting premium wines, full of regional and varietal character. We have selected wines from the likes of John Duval, Cullen and Grosset – top producers which are rarely seen on wine lists in the UK outside of London.

The dinner will take place on the new terrace and, with limited space, early booking is advised.

The seven-course dinner with matching wines is £60 per head. To book call 01736 795352.
