Autumn and winter at The Tolcarne
The Tolcarne Inn has become a favourite haunt of food enthusiasts across Cornwall and beyond since chef Ben Tunnicliffe took over in 2012. With its enviable position right by the sea wall in Newlyn – one of the UKs most important fishing ports – the humble pub has garnered a reputation for excellence, winning a Bib Gourmand in 2013. Chef Ben Tunnicliffe hits the mark every time with his signature fish dishes, making the most of the freshest Cornish seafood landed just yards from his kitchen door.
This autumn and winter, Ben is offering his guests even more reasons to visit. Throughout November you can enjoy two courses for just £15 (excluding Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday lunches). The menu changes regularly to reflect the fishermen’s catch, so this is the perfect opportunity to explore the riches of Cornwall’s waters in a relaxed setting. A log burner, local artwork and friendly service make perfect companions for a great meal.
On the other hand, if you already have plenty of companions to entertain and are looking for a Christmas party with a difference, Ben and his team have the ideal solution. “I’ve never really understood why Christmas parties generally involve turkey roasts,” said Ben, “surely we should be saving that for Christmas day!” The Tolcarne is offering a ‘no tinsel, no turkey’ alternative, featuring fresh Newlyn fish with vegetarian and meat options also available. Three courses start at £21.50, and the menu can be designed around your requirements.
For both the November two course menu and Christmas parties, booking early is recommended as demand is sure to be high! The Tolcarne also serves a popular Sunday lunch, accompanied by a local jazz group – the perfect way to spend a Sunday at this time of year.
