Hatching a plan: Indie traders unite for a bright, fun-filled Easter market
Many a call has been put out recently to support Cornwall’s small independent businesses as the cost-of-living crisis drags on – and yet there’ll be no signs of doom and gloom in Truro on Saturday 30th March.
Two local organisations who represent some of Cornwall’s best-loved micro businesses and artisan enterprises are teaming up to host the first in a series of monthly markets called the BIG Truro Market, showcasing Cornwall’s best and brightest indie traders.
Cornwall Shop Small and Truro Farmers Market are kicking off the monthly events with the BIG Truro Market – An Easter Special, which will explode onto Lemon Quay on Easter Saturday in a shower of daffodils, enticing visitors into the city with the scent of freshly baked hot cross buns.
Sarah Curley from Cornwall Shop Small said: “We’re using our collective power to put on an unmissable showcase of Cornish creativity and ingenuity, where passion and positivity comes free with every purchase! You’d be hard pushed to find a brighter, more eclectic, and uplifting shopping experience anywhere.”
The event is brought to the city with the support of Truro BID and Visit Truro, and promises 60+ stalls bursting to the rafters with seasonal goodies and goodness, as well as music, entertainment, street food, children’s activities, and an Easter Egg Hunt, amounting to an unmissable day of fun in the heart of the city.
The stallholders will be a mix of local artists and contemporary crafters from the worlds of jewellery, fashion, homewares, and vintage style, alongside farm-fresh food produce, sustainable seafood, and some of Cornwall’s best-loved food and drink brands.
Local street food supremos will also be in attendance, cooking up a storm in the form of everything from freshly filled crepes, steaming bowls of Thai curries, mouth-watering gourmet burgers and seasonal salads.
Anyone looking to indulge their sweet tooth this Easter won’t be disappointed, with luxury ice cream, handmade chocolate, and freshly baked cakes, biscuits, buns, and pastries in plentiful supply.
Each BIG Truro Market will also feature activities for all the family to get stuck into, and the Easter Special is no egg-ception; Truro Nourish Hub are hosting seasonal crafting activities for kids, and giving away free hot cross bun recipe cards so the fun can continue at home.
There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt beginning at 10am; to take part, people will need to find one of the wooden eggs hidden in the vicinity of the market and exchange it for a surprise Easter treat (one per person).
Stewart Girvan, Market Coordinator at Truro Farmers Market said: “The aim is for these monthly BIG Truro Markets to be immersive, in that they will engage all the senses and invite people to get involved with workshops and competitions for example. The Easter Special will be the perfect way to kick things off, with a rejuvenating, celebratory vibe to usher in springtime.”
