Two new hires for buoyant branding studio

Falmouth-based design agency Kingdom & Sparrow has started 2024 with the appointment of two new team members in anticipation of a busy year ahead.

Kingdom & Sparrow has appointed Polly Arrowsmith as Account Executive, and Ellie Russell as Junior Designer, further strengthening a creative team which is the go-to for established and start-up brands alike across the food and drink sector.

Creative Director Johnny Paton commented: “Ellie and Polly join us at a time when we have a string of great projects lined up to get our teeth into, working with both local and global partners. From crafting new identities for modern whiskey brands, to launching local food enterprises, we’re always hungry to get involved with a great idea and give it a unique visual identity.”

Johnny’s highlights of 2023 include a branding, packaging, and strategic refresh of low ABV beer brand Small Beer, winning ‘Agency of the Year’ at the Icons of Rum Awards for the Makai Spiced Rum brand, and helping Falmouth’s market garden, Soul Farm, launch a community shares campaign.

Meanwhile, for Managing Director Lenny Mounsher-Quirk, stand-out moments included innovative storytelling concepts for Renegade Brewery, introducing the world to sparkling mead with the launch of Hive Mind, and a large brand refresh and packaging project for Forthglade natural dog food to aid their European roll out.

Lenny said: “Our new team members have found their feet at the perfect time. Both Polly and Ellie come to us with great experience and fresh perspectives to offer, and they share our ethos of putting people and planet at the heart of everything we do.”

Ellie, who has a master’s degree in Communication Design from Falmouth University, is passionate about sustainable packaging and jumped at the opportunity to work at a B Corp on the Cornish coast with an impressive global reputation and a commitment to creating a positive work/life balance.

She said: “I love analysing different audiences and consumer trends, and finding the design solution that will have the greatest impact. I’m also passionate about the environmental impact of materials, pushing the boundaries of innovation in sustainable design.”

Polly has a degree in Psychology and several years under her belt working in marketing within the hospitality sector in London; more recently she’s gained experience in the field of eco-friendly packaging at fellow cutting-edge Cornish company, Flexi Hex.

Polly commented: “One of the things I’m most enjoying about being at a design agency is the collaborative and creative buzz. It’s very rewarding being the first port of call for clients, and then seeing their projects evolve until the final product is actually on the shelves.”

Based in The Old Art School in Falmouth, Kingdom & Sparrow was founded in 2012 and has established itself as one of the leading brand design studios in the world, winning a host of awards in recent years; the studio is currently ranked 3rd in the world by the World Brand Design Awards. The tight-knit team, many of whom studied at Falmouth University, worked together to achieve B Corp status on their 10th anniversary in 2022, enshrining the values of environmental stewardship, local community, and business as a force for good into their growth plan, which looks set to take off this year.
