Prepare for the season of comfort food and cosy living with a visit to The BIG Autumn Market

The BIG Autumn Market – a collaboration between Truro Farmers Market and Cornwall Shop Small – is billed as ‘a bite-sized festival of autumnal food, drink, arts, crafts and vintage wares over an unmissable two days.’

Taking place on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th October, 9am – 4pm, the market is pitched as the perfect opportunity to find cosy lifestyle inspiration for the seasonal shift.

Sarah Curley of Cornwall Shop Small said: “Our stallholders love The BIG Autumn Market as it conjures up that lovely Scandinavian sense of ‘hygge’ as we all seek to make your homes, wardrobes, and self-care rituals ultra-cosy again.”

She continued: “Amongst the sumptuous displays, visitors can expect to find sustainable slow fashion and accessories, vintage treasures, beautiful prints and ceramics, cosy textiles, and eye-catching jewellery from a myriad of local creators and curators.”

Meanwhile, the food and drink traders of Truro Farmers Market will be out in force, fresh from a busy harvest time and with a bounty of autumnal produce to offer marketgoers – from mushrooms to root veg, damson gin to apple pies.

Stewart Girvan, Market Coordinator at Truro Farmers Market, said: “Our farmers and market gardeners will be laden with seasonal abundance. Meanwhile, Cornwall’s finest artisan food producers are ready to inspire home cooks with everything from alpine-style cheeses to nourishing kimchi. At The BIG Autumn Market you’ll find everything you need to take your autumn cooking repertoire up a notch or two!”

The event promises plenty of opportunities to get involved, with a pumpkin carving competition on Saturday 28th and various workshops and demonstrations from artisan makers.

These seasonal mini-festivals are rapidly becoming major highlights in Truro’s event calendar, with around 60 stalls to peruse, live music, interactive demos, and street food all designed to encourage shoppers to linger for longer in the city centre.

The autumn event is the last seasonal celebration of the year before The BIG Festive Market on 24th and 25th November which coincides with the Christmas lights switch-on, and The BIG Christmas Market which takes over Lemon Quay for a month from 29th November onwards.

Stewart Girvan said: “Dare I say it, The BIG Autumn Market is a handy practice run for the Christmas shopping, and a great advertisement for ‘shop local’ ahead of the festive season. Come and meet the traders and get inspired – you’ll soon be planning a return visit to one of our high quality local markets in Truro in the run up to Christmas!”
