The BIG Christmas Market is all set to light up Truro’s Lemon Quay
One of Cornwall’s most popular seasonal events – The BIG Christmas Market – is all set to return to Lemon Quay in Truro this week.
The annual gathering of over 100 local artisan producers kicks off on Friday 2nd December, with 19 days of shopping, entertainment and ‘all the festive feels’ promised in the run-up to Christmas.
Each day of the market will see a different combination of food, drink, art and craft producers displaying their enticing wares, plus a busy programme of entertainment, live music, and street food to get visitors into the festive spirit – all lit up by the city’s beautiful illuminations.
To kick off proceedings on Friday, the hugely popular Rock Choir will be serenading marketgoers with their favourite seasonal tunes; other performers in December include Davey and Dyer Folk Duo, The Panters, Derek Valentini, Andy Marshall, and St Newlyn East Brass Band.
Throughout the market, which wraps up on Christmas Eve at 3pm, shoppers are invited to linger and soak up the full experience, with an undercover seating area for eating and drinking.
Steaming cups of mulled wine or luxury hot chocolate will be on hand, accompanied by roasted chestnuts and fresh churros; The Bearded Brewery will be dishing out mulled cider on tap, while street food options will include gourmet burgers, Caribbean curries and tasty Thai.
Cornwall’s finest food producers will be attending on a revolving basis with an irresistible array of gifts and supplies for the festive season; Rickards Cornish Biltong, The Cornish Larder, Primrose Herd, Delea Fermented Foods, Wildways Forgers, Chocolarder, Cornish Meadow Preserves, The Cornish Italian and Moreish Mushrooms will be there, to name but a few.
Drinks stalls will feature everyone’s favourite local tipples from Elemental Gin, Rosemullion Distillery, Driftwood Spars Brewery, GoodH Brewery, Cuckoo Valley, Gould Cider and Cornish Cream.
The market is a great place to shop for supplies for the Christmas feast itself, with St Piran’s Pork, Lady Hamilton of Helford (fresh fish), Tresemple Farm (lamb), and the Goonown Growers (local organic veg) all helping to fill those festive fridges and store cupboards.
Gift shoppers descending on Truro this December will not be disappointed, as Cornwall’s artisan makers set out to surprise and delight; from homemade soaps to vintage accessories, unique homewares to original prints, there’s something local, ethical, and sustainable for every giftee.
The event on Lemon Quay, which is a collaboration between Truro Farmers Market and Truro BID, is returning for its third successful year.
Stewart Girvan, Market Coordinator, said: “The BIG Christmas Market will be bigger and better than ever this year, with more stalls, entertainment, and street food than ever before. We can’t wait to get started this Friday. If anyone hasn’t quite got into the Christmas groove yet, we suggest you get yourself down to Lemon Quay where the Cornish Christmas spirit will be very much alive and kicking from Friday onwards!”
