A fun, family-friendly Surf Contest is returning to Sennen Cove for its second year this October, thanks to a partnership between four local businesses.

Restaurant Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove has teamed up with Sennen Surfing Centre, Sennen Surf Company Shop and Smart Surf School to plan the two-day event on 28th and 29th October, which will see surfers of all ages and abilities take to the water.

The first day of competition will end with an evening event at Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove (in the new outside bar or ‘Surfers Den’), followed by a second day of competitive events and a prize ceremony.

Sennen Cove was named one of the top ten surf locations in the world by The Guardian newspaper recently, alongside destinations in Mexico, Mozambique and Hawaii.

Sennen was singled out for its consistency, lack of crowds, and its wild and unspoiled location; conditions competitors will be able to lap-up during this half-term event.

Dave Muir, Head Coach at Sennen Surfing Centre, is looking forward to marking the end of another extremely busy and rewarding summer season:

“It’s been a fantastic summer here at Sennen, with record numbers learning to surf with us or improving their skills. For example, our Ladies Surf Club on a Friday night has been hugely popular. The Surf Contest will be the perfect opportunity to celebrate what everyone has achieved.”

Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove – the popular restaurant and venue with commanding views of the bay – will be the hub for the competition.

Competitors and spectators can enjoy great food and drink in relaxed surroundings as they watch events unfold; fringe events will include beach games, barbeques and live music.

Ben Tunnicliffe commented: “I’m really looking forward to the Surf Contest – in fact my whole family are keen to get involved! It’s the perfect opportunity for everyone to come together before winter hibernation kicks in.”

The Sennen Surf Contest is also a chance to reflect and celebrate the life of local lifeboatman and surfer Ashley Moffatt, whom the community continues to remember fondly over a decade since his fatal car accident.

Everyone from beginners through to serious surfers will have the chance to take part, with prizes in the form of cash, vouchers and surfing gear available in several categories.
