Ben Is In The Good Books After First Season

untitled-17medresChef Ben Tunnicliffe and his hard-working team are celebrating this month, after his eponymous restaurant at Sennen Cove was included in The Good Food Guide – just months after opening the doors for the first time.

The Good Food Guide is the UK’s best-selling restaurant guide; respected critics have been reviewing restaurants, pubs and cafes for its pages since 1951, taking their lead from suggestions from the public before visiting anonymously.

Ben said he was thrilled to see his restaurant, Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove, included after its very first season, saying: “This recognition is a fantastic achievement for the whole team who have worked so hard to set and maintain high standards during our first – and extremely busy – summer of operating here at the beach.”

Ben has been a champion of Cornwall’s food and drink scene since he settled here in 2001; his pub in Newlyn, The Tolcarne, is widely acknowledged to be one of the top spots to enjoy local seafood.

The respected chef, who gained a Michelin Star at The Abbey in Penzance in 2003, became custodian of the beach restaurant at Sennen this spring.

For his new project Ben created a menu which combines his love of seafood with family-friendly classics – featuring the likes of Fish Soup and Rouille, Monkfish Scampi, Fish and Chips and Burgers – all made using the finest local ingredients and served with attention to detail and flair.

Ben’s daily fish board celebrates the catch of the day – fish landed at Newlyn and Sennen is served simply with seasonal produce to accentuate the fresh flavours.

The restaurant and the menu are designed for the whole family to enjoy, and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Ben explained: “We’ve taken our lead from the amazing setting and the way that people use the beach – for example dog walkers are welcome and it’s the perfect pit-stop for surfers or cyclists looking to refuel.”

He added: “We have received a great welcome from the local community, and have planned a series of events to ensure that the restaurant will be a real hub of activity all year round. It’s a great privilege to offer hospitality in this stunning location and our ethos involves respecting the surrounding landscape and the beach lifestyle here at Sennen.”
